A fantastic approach to estate planning that brings in the technical pieces and--more importantly--the relational pieces. I write int he back of a book quotes or pieces I want to see, and the back page is full. This book is a game changer.York and Howell are attorneys and yet write very readably. They have the technical chops but don't let that get int he way on communicating clearly.The most unique thing is the relational insights they offer. I firmly believe (as seems the authors) if you get the relationships strong, communication high and the trust established the technical things fall into place. These two give great tested tips about how to help on that side, as well as explain the landscape for some solutions on the technical pieces in a way all can understand.
I’ve been wanting to design my trust in a fuller way so I picked up this book. Although it’s pretty though provoking the book left me wanting me more with nowhere to go. It explains why it’s good to have a trust and why to have It detailed. But pretty much just said “they’re all different so go figure it outâ€. I’d love more assistance on getting further planning.
I wanted to learn a lot from this book, but it really offered very little practical advice and a lot of philosophizing. It's rather thin on specifics. In fact, it's rather thin overall for $25! And at that price, one would think they could employ a competent proofreader ("persevere" instead of "preserve," "formerly" rather than "formally," multiple typos, etc.). All in all, a very fast but disappointing read.
What an excellent book, with Historical documentation of families in America who handed their legacy to their heirs effectively and those families who failed at sharing legacy with their heirs. The Ideas are sound, with proven benefits for living intentionally with their wives, children, and extended family members from generation to generation. IF YOU CARE ABOUT BUILDING A STRONG FAMILY WITH QUALITY VALUES FROM GENERATION TO GENERATION, DO NOT MISS THIS BOOK.
This was a great read. So many books focus on the strategies for estate planning that pass the most amount of wealth possible to the beneficiaries. They rarely focus on preparing the beneficiaries to receive the wealth. The authors of this book recognize that without preparation, inherited wealth can do much more harm than good. It certainly changed my perspective on inherited wealth. I found this book to be surprisingly engaging for such an inherently boring topic.

This is a great book and represents a refreshing departure from the typical approach to wealth and estate planning. This is definitely a great read for anyone looking for practical ideas to manage wealth and the transfer of wealth in a more meaningful way. It was engaging and contains some enjoyable anecdotes to help demonstrate the principles.
Wow! I never thought I would enjoy a book about Estate Planning but I was wrong. This book opened my eyes to a different/better way of thinking about leaving a lasting legacy for generations! This book helped me to understand all of the different approaches to Estate Planning in a way that I could easily understand. I highly recommend it for anyone and everyone!
